A board-certified psychiatrist with over two decades of transformative work in mental health, Dr. Alisa Turok stands at the intersection of clinical excellence and compassionate innovation. Fluent in English and Russian, she bridges cultural divides to deliver personalized care for diverse populations.


Dr. Turok’s foundation in medicine began at Russia’s renowned Nizhniy Novgorod State Medical Academy, where she earned her Medical Doctor Degree in 1996. Driven by a commitment to global standards, she achieved U.S. medical licensure via the USMLE (2003) and solidified her expertise with board certification from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (2014).

Education & Credentials

During her psychiatry residency at New York City’s Beth Israel Medical Center (2003–2007), Dr. Turok emerged as a leader in dual diagnosis treatment, co-designing one of the hospital’s first outpatient programs for co-occurring psychiatric and addiction disorders. Her passion for addressing substance use complexities led her to complete a prestigious Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship at Beth Israel (2007–2008), where she honed advanced methodologies for integrated care.

Dr. Turok’s career is marked by significant contributions to emergency psychiatry and addiction treatment. She served as CPEP Attending Psychiatrist at Mount Sinai St. Luke’s & Mount Sinai West (2011–2020), where she led high-stakes psychiatric emergency care, mentored residents and medical students, and coordinated interdisciplinary teams to deliver precision triage and treatment. Prior to this, she held the role of Psychiatric Emergency Room Attending at Maimonides Medical Center (2012–2013), further solidifying her reputation for calm, decisive leadership in crisis settings.

Today, Dr. Turok channels her expertise into her private practice, where she provides personalized, patient-centered care for individuals facing a wide range of mental health challenges.

A dedicated researcher and educator, Dr. Turok has contributed to the advancement of psychiatric care through numerous studies, publications, and presentations:

  • Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) Study (2006–2007)
    Conducted a study on outcomes and patient attitudes toward ECT, focusing on variables affecting treatment efficacy and patient perceptions prior to therapy initiation.

  • Documentary Film: "Curing Gender" (2004–2006)
    Co-authored and produced a documentary exploring cross-sectional case studies of individuals diagnosed with Gender Identity Disorder, aiming to shed light on their experiences and challenges.

  • Research Coordinator at Beth Israel Medical Center (2002–2003)
    Worked on various projects, including studies on substance abuse, pedophilia, and the neuropsychological aspects of addictive behaviors. Coordinated clinical drug trials, including studies on antipsychotic medications such as risperidone, ziprasidone, olanzapine, and paroxetine.
